Organic and synthetic, acoustic and electric, dance and indie and a little bit punk: The Fruit Machines is an album that revels in its own contradictions. Written over the course of a year in which founding member and song writer Nick Pope’s former band broke up, he graduated college, failed to find a job, and fell in love with his best friend, the album is at once joyous, discontented, tender, acerbic, and empowered. Its eight sprawling tracks are anchored by hypnotic beats which guide the band’s natural melodic sensibility and hooky charm.
